A young wizard breathed heavily, body pressed up against the damp wall of a tunnel as she tried to catch her breath quickly. “Dammit Aerich, quiet down.” The whispered voice came from a ranger standing very close to the young wizard. Still controlling her breath Aerich replied in a soft whisper, barely audible as she gained control of her breathing.

“Raelyn if they find us due to my breathing I doubt talking will be any better.” She hissed back before adding quickly, “How did they find us anyway, we were careful.” Aerich glanced around a corner finally hearing footsteps fade into the distance, she exhaled. “I think we are clear.” Still not talking louder than a whisper.

Raelyn relaxed, loosening her bow string as Aerich patted the satchel at her waist. “Looks like we got away with the documents, for now.” Raelyn scratched her head. “I think we need to have a conversation with the bosses. I was not expecting this much heat.” The footsteps could still be heard fading in the distance as Aerich simply nodded her head before quickly and quietly leading the way through the catacombs.

The tunnels under the city had been rebuilt and repurposed since the flooding many years ago. Aerich remembered the first brawl she ever watched, where she stood in the crowd witnessing one battle after another. She shuddered at the memory of the faces in the crowd, pressed right against the ring, screaming at the combatants, for good or ill she could not tell. The loud raucous applause throughout the makeshift arena was deafening as beer and food went everywhere. Chaos. ‘Seven years is a long time,’ she reminded herself before adding out loud; “My, we have come a long way.” Her mouth twisted with a smirk as she pulled on an oil lantern and a creaking sound could be heard before a portion of the tunnel wall opened.

The sound of a large crowd moved through the doorway as Raelyn and Aerich stepped through. They were looking down on a large arena, dug deep into the underground, crowd packed, standing and roaring as a battle ensued in the middle. The wall closed behind the young ranger and wizard and Aerich smiled at the deafening crowd, hundreds of feet below the tipsy turtle – the cool of the underground countered by the giant crowd screaming. Aeirch smiled a wide smile, they hadn’t been discovered, yet.
